Rutgers University Libraries & Centers (New Brunswick/Piscataway) 

Rutgers University has libraries across all New Brunswick campuses. Each has a unique collection focus and personality. Many have designated quiet floors or spaces. Find one that fits your needs. Here is a sampling below of the graduate spaces that the Rutgers Libraries provides.  Please visit this full guide that is designed to help graduate students on the New Brunswick/Piscataway campuses navigate Rutgers University as well as downtown New Brunswick.

  • Alexander (College Avenue Campus)
    Check out the Graduate Reading Room and the Graduate Resources Room! Students interested in utilizing this space should visit the circulation desk, located on the third floor, to check out the key. Graduate carrels are available in the Graduate Reading Room. Pick up an application form from the Circulation Desk on the main floor. PhD students are given priority.
  • Art Library (College Avenue Campus)
    Located next to the Zimmerli Art Museum, the Art Library has a collection of over 90,000 volumes related to the Arts, a graduate reading room, and study space.
  • Library of Science and Medicine-LSM (Busch Campus)

    The Library of Science and Medicine (LSM), is home to Rutgers’ largest science and medical research collections. LSM is also a depository of federal and state government documents that are scientific and technical in nature, including United States patents and trademarks. The Graduate Student Lounge, accessible by card swipe, is located on the second floor to the left of the stairs, behind the government documents area. This space has comfortable seating, tables, and writing boards for use with markers available from the access services desk on the first floor. Students can also take advantage of the third floor’s quiet policy for silent study. In addition, medical librarians are available to answer questions on the third floor, Monday through Friday, from 9-5. 

  • Mabel Smith Douglass Library (Cook/Douglass Campus)
    Collections and services with focus on women's, gender and sexuality services and performing arts. There are graduate carrels available on the mezzanine floor. The Graduate Reading Room on the Mezzanine Level of Douglass Library has 16 lockable graduate carrels. Rutgers University graduate students who are eligible can request to reserve a carrel for an academic year. Click HERE to access the application.
